On December 8th GRAZIA magazine awarded the most successful women of 2013 at a glamorous ceremony at Sofia Event Center. “Woman of the Year” contest was held for the eighth consecutive year and again brought together women who never stopped inspiring us with their accomplishments.
Representatives of business, media, entertainment world, fashion and sports gathered together at Sofia Event Center to become part of an exciting event, during which 12 of the 60 women, nominated in various categories, received their awards on stage with deserved acclaim.
Traditionally the event began with a welcome speech from the patron of the competition, the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova. She acquainted the guests with the mission of this year ceremony – “At school in XXI century – game of tradition, modernity and imagination”. Masters of eremony were Drago Simeonov and Gerry Turiiska who entertained the guests supported by stage performances from Pechenkata and Vesko Eshkenazi, Hypnotic and the young opera singer Ralitza Ralinova.
The world class model Kremena Otashliyska won the award in Fashion Faces category, followed by Janica Ioncheva from Love Made Love children’s fashion label among the nominated fashion designers.
Best singer of the year was Mihaela Fileva, while in the Stage Actresses’ category absolute winner was Silvia Lulcheva. Maria Ilieva was shining in her beautiful dress by famous fashion duo Kolchagov/Barba, while thanking on stage for her award in the Personal Style category, established by GRAZIA and the general sponsor of the event Fashion Days.
The national volleyball team won in the Sports category, accepting the award from the legendary Bulgarian volleyball player Lubo Ganev. Anna Tzolova from Nova TV’s morning show was the winner in the TV Journalism category, while in TV Show the award went to the BNT’s Apartment host Marta Vachkova.
Talented and beautiful actress Teodora Duhovnikova was most favorite among the nominated women in the TV Actresses category. Tzetzka Radeva, founder of Maria’s World Foundation for people with intellectual disabilities was the absolute winner in the Society and Charity category, while the Business category was won by Gergana Tashkova of Cacharel Bulgaria.
Miss Gerry Turiiska topped the Culture category, accepting the award for her accomplishments in the literature project Fairy Tails Post Box.
GRAZIA magazine presented also three special awards – an award for Initiative to the radio host Evelina Pavlova who in 2013 introduced innovative educational programs to various Bulgarian schools, a special award for Courage to the opera singer Ina Kancheva for turning Mozart’s “Magic Flute” into a book for children and adults, mixing literature, music and art, and a very special award for contribution to solve the demographic problem in Bulgaria to Dr. Georgi Stamenov from Nadezhda Women’s Health Hospital.
The first man to ever win an award in the “Woman of the Year” was surprised by a few small children who have come into the world with his help. Dr. Stamenov accepted his award in the company of the most important ladies on his team – Dr. Persenska and Dr. Shefketova, who came on stage to share this moment of happiness with him.
