The tradition of Christmas markets in Europe is very long and goes back to Austria and Germany at the turn of the 13th and 14th Centuries.
Christmas markets now take place in every major European city from the end of November until the first days
of January and in countries with the custom of the Julian calendar (Belarus, Ukraine) even until the end of January. Typical products offered are: food, regional dishes, cured meat, baked goods and lots of sweets, as well as Christmas decorations and all kinds of handicrafts. Cultural events and entertainment, as well as other seasonal attractions, add to the festivities.
Christmas markets are very popular among both locals and tourists, for example those in Poland are visited by
100,000-500,000 people in average, depending on the city and size of market. Stall rental prices are various in different countries, for example in Czechia, in Prague – CZK 3,000 daily. Generally, prices vary due to the attractiveness of the market for potential tenants, which depends on factors including the marketing and advertising of the event.
