JEDI – Electric Wheelchairs for Children with Special Needs, and Meteo.Rocks – Intelligent Weather Stations, are the Winners of the Rinker’s Challenge # 4

The winners of the Competition for Start-up Entrepreneurs – Rinker’s Challenge # 4 are announced. This year Rinker Center at BCause Foundation had 111 candidates, 14 won a place in the training program, and 13 teams presented their business ideas to the Jury.

In a hotly contested race, two business projects were awarded with start-up funding of BGN 20 000 and one year of expert assistance: Electric wheelchairs for children with special needs – JEDI, by the engineer Bozhidar Dimitrov, and Meteo.Rocks – intelligent weather stations network, developed by the partners Dimitar Mitev, Stoyan Georgiev and Simeon Naydenov.

Bozhidar Dimitrov is a talented engineer, who decided to help Rado by creating a special electric wheelchair for him – one that not only allows him to move about, but also to be an active participant in the games with other children. He created a motorized vehicle, that is foldable, light, can grow with the children and adapt to their specific needs. Helping Rado, Bozhidar realized that his technical innovation JEDI can reach and help many children with special needs.

So that we all can have reliable weather forecasts, Meteo.Rocks (Stoyan Georgiev, Simeon Naidenov and Dimitar Mitev) developed their own meteorological station prototype, which far surpass the conventional methods for keeping track of the weather changes. Their goal is to build up an extensive network of intelligent weather stations, producing specific and accurate forecasts on demand.

This year’s Rinker competition was indeed a challenge, it was very difficult to choose which two projects award – this was the general opinion of the members of Rinker’s Jury: Irina Dimitrova – Chief Financial Officer of LAUNCHub Ventures, Nikolay Yarmov – Executive Director of CEED Bulgaria, Emil Georgiev – Creator and Executive director DeKoni, Ivo Petrushev of the SIS Credit Group, Venelin Dobrev – co-founder of “Uspelite” and BCause Foundation’s Board of Directors Members – Michail Boyadjiev, Georgi Nikolov and Sasha Bezuhanova.

4 of the 13 projects, presenting their ideas at Rinker’s Challenge #4, were selected after participating in the Summer Academy “Entrepreneurship: Opportunities at your fingertips” at Blagoevgrad, Kurdjali, Silistra and Haskovo region as part of the “Summer for Joy, Autumn for Care” program, implemented with the support of Philip Morris Bulgaria.

Incentive prizes of BGN 5,000 were awarded by Philip Morris Bulgaria to 4 teams – The Hooligents Club, a Knights-Rebels School, presented by Todor Panchev, “Pet at Home” – a pet hotel, Bozhidar Angelov from Silistra, “Kika Cakes” – a home-style bakery, by Kirila Staykova from Kardzhali, and “Prospect Life” – a mobile laser kinesitherapy service, developed by Donika Barakova and Lilia Manikova from Gotse Delchev.
