American University in Bulgaria (AUBG)

Over 290 students and a rise in admission marks the start of Orientation Week in American University in Bulgaria

This year the American University in Bulgaria is welcoming over 290 students from 29 countries, while noting a 30% increase of influx compared to last year. The Orientation Week starts on August 28, 2018, when the president of AUB Dr. Steven Sullivan will be welcoming the students and their parents for a reception from 18:00 on Tuesday in campus “Scaptopara”.

Nearly 100% of the newly accepted students have received scholarships or financial support from the university, while full scholarships have been given to 30 students. This is a reflection of the high academic results, which have been achieved by the young students, because this factor, along with the material status of the families of the students, are the most important when it comes to deciding the scope of the financial support.

There are few young people with proven talent in different areas that stand out among all the prominent students. A Bulgarian girl is one of the Top 10 high score students of the Cambridge Schools Association in Bulgaria for 2016; many winners in music and literature competitions; there are also few youngsters who stand out with their prizes from oratory/ rhetoric skills competitions; Among the foreign students there are medalists from literature Olympiads; two time basketball champions; volunteer from the Peace Corps, and others.

During the Orientation Week (28th of August – 4th of September 2018) the newly admitted students will receive a chance to socialize, as the university has prepared a dynamic program of events for them: sports night, karaoke, volunteer work, talents night, information session of the Career center and others. From the 290 students who arrive at the start of the week and start their education, 39 are in student exchange programs. Their “Introduction” includes a tour of the administrative offices of the university, the library “Panica”, sports facilities and computer labs. In turn the Seniors will show all Juniors the most interesting places in Blagoevgrad. It looks like the Orientation Week in AUB will be the meeting point of many interesting and talented individuals who will walk together on their path to knowledge.
