During the first eight months of 2018 a total of 1,173 children from 13 schools across the country were trained how to deal with the main online risks and whom to ask for help and advice in case they encounter a problem on the Internet.
The training were held during the first part of the year-round Cyberscout program. The program is organized for the third consecutive year by the National Safer Internet Center and Telenor, aiming at reaching by the end of 2018 2000 trained children. Some of the skills that children acquire within the Cyberscout program are: detection and coping with computer viruses; recognizing pedophiles and strangers online; online bullying; reporting and blocking; social networks settings and passwords.
Over 300 of these children are certified cyberscouts, who have spread their knowledge about online risks and how to deal with them to other 664 peers. After two days of training, the cyberscouts have reached a 45% progress in recognizing potential pedophile. This is also the most serious risk among children using the Internet. For the first time this year, cyberscout experts managed to identify a potential pedophile, who has requested friendship to their classmate. The case was handed over to the competent authorities.
200 of the trained adolescents took part in the Doctor OhZabi filed clinic initiative, during which experts review the security of their smartphones and tablets and teach them about the specific risks on mobile devices.
