Free Saturday running will combat sedentary lifestyles among children

According to the European Association for the Study of Obesity, Bulgaria is one of the countries with common overweight problems in childhood. To support ‘5 km Park BG’ in their fight against the lack of physical activity among children, TELUS International Community Board in Bulgaria will fund the organization for their free 2-kilometer kids runs. They are the only kind of all-year-round running events for children in the country and will be held every Saturday for 52 weeks. The ultimate goal of the project is to build a sport culture, lasting habits and discipline among children from the earliest age.

“It is of the utmost importance for us to directly support society through the work of NGOs and their projects. Since the beginning of 2019, the Community Board of TELUS International in Bulgaria has reviewed over 160 projects that have applied for funding. This year, BGN 170,000 will be distributed among the various projects,” commented the Board members.

In the field of education, after its second meeting, the Community Board of TELUS International in Bulgaria will support three more projects – the establishment of a program to enhance digital literacy for parents and children and an online platform to protect the rights of young people undergoing legal proceedings. In addition, the Board will support sessions for intercultural understanding through mutual baking and lectures with the participation of children from refugee families at the ‘Bread House Sofia’.
