55 percent of people who do not have their own residence intend to buy one, with nearly half of them indicating housing credit as the primary means of financing it, according to data from a nationally representative online survey conducted by Gemius Bulgaria at Postbank’s commissioning. Second comes the possibility to finance the purchase with one’s own funds, which was marked by 25 percent of the respondents, two percent would borrow from a friend/relative, and the remaining 25 percent – a combination of housing and mortgage loan or own funds and a housing/consumer loan.
Postbank’s experts reported a considerable increase of the inquiries for housing lending since the start of the year. The inquiries for new housing loans in the institution is over 50 percent compared to the same period last year. The demand for housing in the major cities – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas, which account for about 75 percent of the new mortgage loan applications in the Bank, continues to be the highest. The average loan amount has also increased, approaching EUR 56,500 in the first five months of 2019 compared to the EUR 51,200 for the same period last year.
Postbank has 30 specialized centres for housing lending, and in 2018 only the financial institution opened 5 new ones – 3 in Sofia and one in Varna and Pleven each.
“Our goal is to be as useful as possible to our customers when buying a new home. We know they need reliable advice on choosing the right product. Responding to their customer expectations, we have launched a new one-year and three-year fixed rate mortgage. So, we can guarantee our clients that their instalment would not rise during the initial loan period. This is particularly important to them, because the largest costs associated with new home are at the beginning of the loan term”, Postbank says.
