2019 GBS Bikeathon Challenge

As part of Ingram Micro’s continued efforts to reach out and provide support to communities in need, the Global Business Service organization of the company launched the 2019 GBS Bikeathon Challenge, a 24-hour Stationary Cycling and Charity event participated by cycling enthusiasts from both Bulgaria and Philippines Centers. The two centers competed for the furthest distance, while raising donations for their chosen charity organizations.

Over 6,000 children are born prematurely in Bulgaria each year. Statistics show that in our country every 10th child is born prematurely. This data is even more disturbing because in some of the regional hospitals in the country, medical equipment is out of date and families are losing their children because of the inability of doctors to fight for the lives of their babies.

Ingram Micro employees wish to contribute to the change of this trend, so we decided to support the Lazar Radkov’s Foundation, which also aims to change the alarming statistic through its “Plastic Caps for the Future” campaign.

We would like to extend our warmest and sincerest gratitude to everyone for making the 2019 GBS Bikeathon a huge success!

Through our teamwork and determination, we were able to record a combined 3,647kms for both the Manila ( 1753.63kms) and Sofia (1893.84kms) sites.

The total funds raised exceeded our expectations, they will be matched by Ingram Micro to make the donation even more impactful and fully donated to the chosen 2 local charity causes.

In Sofia, on the day of the event, we first received a special Welcome from our Managing Director and the Senior Leadership. Then we had few popular people who joined the event and embraced our charity efforts: our TV star Niki Kunchev, one of our best volleyball players Vlado Nikolov and the famous head of the charity show “New home squad” Vlado Karadjov joined us at the opening and marked the beginning of the cycling, personally supporting the nobel cause.

This one-of-a-kind charity event is an amazing addition to the many social responsibility initiatives driven in the GBS organization and I am looking forward to more activities like this to strengthen the corporate citizenship throughout Ingram Micro.

Let’s continue giving and spreading the gift of hope to others!
