AmCham Bulgaria members had a webinar with Rossen Jeliazkov, Minister of transport, IT and Communications. Following the rules of social distancing and by using the most modern technologies both parties enjoyed a quality discussion. The event titled “Transport and Digitization – Plan for an exit of COVID-19 crisis for Bulgaria” was moderated by Petar T. Ivanov, CEO of AmCham Bulgaria. In hour and a half Minister Jeliazkov answered to questions related to the recent developments and anti-crisis measures of the transportation sector to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. Being well-known with its large-scale digital agenda, the Chamber pointed out the important matters that are due to be implemented, in order Bulgaria to have better positioning for more effective crisis-exit.
“All public investments in the systems of transportation and IT and communications are guaranteed for this year,” Minister Jeliazkov said. “The Bulgarian transport sector has a complete readiness to secure the transporation of passengers and cargo. However, the main question is will the business recover to the production volumes of 2019. We have potential to develop alternative transport, such as the inter-modal.”
With regard the “Mobility I” package the minister said that Bulgaria jointly with other member-states that have common interest, insist for amendment of the proposed texts, especially about the return of the trucks and truck-drivers. Minister Jeliazkov was certain that Bulgaria will start a court case in the coming 18 months of the interim period.
“We would like to thank Minister Jeliazkov for his responsiveness to organize today’s meeting. The Ministry that he is leading, is desired strategic partner of AmCham Bulgaria. Among our members are leading global digital and logistics companies, Bulgarian technological and transportation businesses, as well as the three telecoms. We are certain that only together we can find joint solutions for a successful crisis-exit as well as to restructure our economy on the basis of large-scale digitalization and strategic positioning in front of foreign and local investors,” said after the event Petar T. Ivanov.

This was the second in-a-row institutional webinar for AmCham Bulgaria and its members.
