ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP donated disinfectants and consumables to the Regional Library in Stara Zagora

The project aims to ensure safe access to books and library materials while reducing the risk of COVID-19 spread

“ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3” TPP donated 5 contactless disinfectant dispensers and consumables to the Regional Library “Zachary Knyazheski” in Stara Zagora. The dispensers will be located at the entrance, the shared reading room and the departments for children, teenagers and adults, according to the procedures for visitors and library staff safety in the conditions of the COVID-19 epidemic. The aid to the Regional Library comes at a time when its activities are gradually normalizing in view of the coronavirus pandemic. Initially, it worked only with readers, but later expanded its scope and added a summer childern’s program which is consistent with all anti-epidemiological conditions. Enhanced disinfection measures, distance between visitors, the use of protective masks, a limit on the number of people in the reading rooms and mandatory quarantine of books for a period of 72 hours are applied in the building.

Zahariy Knyazheski Regional Library has been working closely on various projects with ContourGlobal for 7 years. Thanks to the company’s help, the library has an up-to-date teen zone that meets modern standards for education and youth culture activities, the library fund has been enriched multiple times, the technical equipment and the reading rooms’ facilities have been improved.

“The donation came at the right time. Our library is a public institution and in order to operate, it needs to comply with all necessary safety requirements. Dispensers and disinfectants are located in key places. As soon as they enter, visitors have access to them and from the very beginning of their stay, they can use the library spaces safely. The contactless dispensers themselves are branded with infographics and instructions for keeping distance and wearing protective equipment, which inform citizens how to safely spend their time indoors, ” said Nadezhda Grueva from the Zahariy Knyazheski Regional Library in Stara Zagora.

In 2017 and 2018, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP was awarded by the Bulgarian Library Association in the category “Library Aid” in connection with the successfully implemented projects in support of “Zachary Knyazheski” Regional Library. For 4 consecutive years, the power plants has also been receiving the special “Donor of the Year” award, which the Regional Library presents for donations and support provided within the framework of its educational activities.

“ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3” ranks among the largest employers and the most generous donors in the region of Stara Zagora and Galabovo, where its thermal power plant is based. In recent years, the company has invested over BGN 4 million in projects for the benefit of the public. The main part of the funds is intended for local communities.

ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 owns and operates the first lignite-fired thermal power plant in Southeast Europe, which operates in full compliance with the highest European standards for occupational safety and environmental protection. The power plant produces 10% of the electricity in Bulgaria, using local energy sources and thus contributes to ensuring the country’s energy security and independence. More than BGN 1.4 billion have been invested in ensuring the TPP’s reliable operation, and in environmental protection measures. The shareholders are the international energy company ContourGlobal (73%) and the National Electricity Company (27%).
