InterContinental Sofia Received Two Prestigious Awards from International Competitions

The leader among the five-star hotels in Bulgaria, InterContinental Sofia, was recently named Bulgaria’s Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2020 and Luxury Business Hotel of Eastern Europe at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2020.

The General Manager, Mr. Angelo Zuccala, speaks about the key to these and many other achievements for the last two years of operation.

This year InterContinental Sofia won several amazing awards – Hotel of the Year for 2019, IHG Europe Star Awards, Leading Hotel in Bulgaria and now Business Hotel of Eastern Europe! What is the secret to these outstanding achievements?

The World Luxury Hotel Awards and the World Travel Awards are the most prestigious contests in the tourism industry and have been recognizing hotel excellence for decades. It is a great honor for us that for a second year in a row InterContinental Sofia is the leading hotel in Bulgaria and the best luxury business hotel in Eastern Europe. I have always believed that the key element to success is the relationship with the team and that is why we have always focused our efforts on ensuring a pleasant and safe working environment for our colleagues. Our main goal is to provide a truly luxurious hotel experience and the challenges in the sector over the past year and the competition of the new five-star hotels, motivate us to constantly improve the product we offer, applying the latest practices in the industry. These awards are the result of all these efforts and I am extremely happy that they were awarded to InterContinental Sofia.

What distinguishes InterContinental Sofia from the other five-star hotels in the country?

InterContinental Sofia defines the development of the luxury segment in Bulgaria and the level of service we offer to our guests has contributed to the establishment of Sofia as a desirable tourist destination. What is your vision for InterContinental Sofia and tourism in general in 2021?

In 2021, I expect that InterContinental Sofia will maintain its leading position in the country and the region, and we will add even more awards to our “wall of fame”. The hotel adheres to uncompromising health and safety measures, including the IHG Clean Promise and IHG Meet with Confidence campaigns, which give guests extra confidence. Regarding tourism in general – if a year ago the business was developing in the direction of globalization, now the trends are shifting towards a more regional level. I expect development locally and regionally, and an increase in travel within Europe. I believe that 2021 will be more successful than 2020, because the desire to travel remains, and perhaps will be even greater when the situation allows it.
