AIMS Human Capital Anniversary Book

The book “Success Stories from Bulgaria” was created in honor of the 25th anniversary of AIMS Human Capital and the 10th anniversary of the launch of Dale Carnegie Training in Bulgaria. The authors created 100 interesting, provocative and deeply experienced stories of people who have achieved success and realization in Bulgaria!

Two of those inspiring stories are from Olivier Marquette, AmCham Bulgaria President and Daniel Kiryakov, Communications and Public Affairs Manager at AmCham Bulgaria.

Olivier Marquette shared his advice for successful career:

When I was a junior engineer starting my career, I got to meet and interact with an entrepreneur and CEO of a growing software company. One day I asked him what his advice to have a successful career was. To my greatest surprise, he replied that the best advice he could give me is to proactively stay in control of one’s agenda, and never stop doing sports on a regular basis. He told me that as successful as he is, his main regret is that he was not able to keep up with sports, and he profoundly regretted it now that he was in his 50s and out of shape. Now I am approaching 50, so I completely relate to this advice, which I kept applying throughout my career. Exercising on a regular basis allows me to cope with stress and keep up with crazy schedules, and to simply stay in optimal physical shape. No matter how busy I am, I still save 30 to 60 minutes 3 to 4 times a week to run.

This was the best piece of advice I received in my whole career.

Daniel Kiryakov pointed out the main lessons in his experience:

Over my (still) short career I’ve learnt many lessons: constantly to work hard and to improve myself; to think and plan before acting; to seek and to gain from others’ experience; to find and to give benefits for many. It seems that the best skill in business is the quality communication within the teams and with individuals. By sharing knowledge, information and experience, each team can move a mountain. Therefore the outcome is clear: never start a journey alone. That is why I am often amazed by two things: what great successes can be achieved when people collaborate with each other, and how hard and easy we fail, if we are alone.

Thus, the fight with the ego – personal and the one of the others – is the biggest challenges in business. For the lesson was to hear and to learn from my colleagues’ feedback. And to realize that it is a gift. Afterwards I learned to give feedback aiming that we all should go together ahead.

Last but not least – I learn constantly to think out of the box, to seek for new opportunities, to check and trust facts, and not to give up. I’ve noticed that if a person has goal, sooner or later, with persistence and partners – things happen.

They are easy to read, each one a maximum of one page, and you can just turn around and sink into another story or thoughts of a leader who has overcome the inertia and satisfaction of the mediocre. You will see many familiar and some lesser known but still promising names. The book is a limited edition and can be ordered at [email protected]
