ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP Has Produced Over 10% of the Country’s Electricity in the First Three Months of 2021

The power plant continues its reliable work on electricity generation for the needs of household consumers and industry

ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP has produced 10.5% of the electricity for the needs of the domestic market for the period January 1 – March 31, 2021. The produced energy equals the average consumption for the period of over 1 million Bulgarian households. The power plant continues to operate in compliance with the strictest sanitary and restrictive security measures introduced in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. On the territory of “ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3” TPP daily disinfection is being carried out, employees are provided with additional personal protective equipment, and the necessary safe physical distance is provided at the workplace. In addition, the TPP has an emergency action plan, which provides for work in complete isolation in case of a sharp change in the epidemic situation in the country.

We took the necessary measures without any delay, and reorganized our activities at all levels to ensure that the power plant will continue to reliably provide electricity. ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 owns and operates the first lignite-fired thermal power plant in Southeast Europe, which operates in full compliance with the highest European standards for occupational safety and environmental protection. Annually, the power plant produces 10% of the electricity in Bulgaria, using local energy sources and thus contributing to ensuring the country’s energy security and independence. Over BGN 1.4 billion have been invested in ensuring the TPP’s reliable and in environmental protection measures.
