Petar T. Ivanov – Farewell to AmCham Members

Dear Members,

After five amazing years full of many projects, meetings, events and new friendships, I would like to inform you that I am leaving the Chamber effective August 22. I am proud of what has been achieved so far and am confident that I am leaving behind a financially and functionally stable organization with many active and engaged members. Moreover, together with the Board and the AmCham team we managed to position our organization before state institutions, the business community, as well as our international partners and friends. I dare say that everything we have accomplished with yourselves has led to the revival of the Chamber.

For several days now I find myself having to look back over the years of working for the Chamber. Such letters are also an opportunity to take stock of what has been achieved. Allow me to give you a few  examples:

  • We have ensured the representation of American companies on the Board and its continuity through a series of strategic changes to the Statutes.
  • A Code of Ethics has been adopted in the very first year of my administration.
  • We have enhanced and established excellent relationships with our colleagues from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and with most of the American Chambers in Europe.
  • We have increased the value of the Chamber. Today it is perceived as an institution,  a reliable partner and a representative of Bulgaria in a number of formats, such as the Three Seas Initiative, the CEE Digital Coalition, relations with the innovation community of the State of Israel, in partnerships with other bilateral chambers and with some of the employers’ organizations.
  • We have revitalized and upgraded the committees, widening our focus to more industries. Today,  they are on the right basis for discussing ideas, joining efforts to overcome administrative and bureaucratic obstacles or forging real legislative changes to improve the business climate and environment in our country.
  • Тhe Chamber has established itself as a preferred partner for meetings of leading American companies with Bulgarian ministers and with the Prime Minister during their official visits to the USA.
  • We have expanded our physical presence in the U.S., offering business services to our members in market entry and investment promotion between the two countries – a model implemented by only three other sister chambers in history.
  • We have become a factor to guarantee energy security and the diversification of energy supplies for Bulgaria and the region.
  • In 2022 we became actively involved in the employment search and support for Ukrainian refugees in our country.
  • In 2020, together with the US Embassy, America for Bulgaria Foundation, and the Bulgarian Donor Forum, our members collected over BGN 1 million, directed to 112 organizations fighting against CoVID- 19.
  • AmCham continued to be a platform for exchanging ideas, business contacts, and partnerships between members

This is only a small part of what we have accomplished together. I dare say that today you all perceive membership in the Chamber with pride and respect, but also with a sense of responsibility and belonging.

Here I would like to thank the several Boards with which I have worked, our two presidents – Krasi Chemishanska and Olivier Marquette, the Vice Presidents and Treasurers, as well as the other Board members, whose number probably exceeds the number of two football teams. A big “Thank you” goes to the AmCham  team – without their dedication, hard work, and motivation we would not be able to achieve anything. I want to thank all our members for their full reliance and support.

The fact that a new professional challenge is starting for me does not mean that we are parting ways with you. You have my contacts, we are connected on LinkedIn, and we shall also see each other in Sofia and the region.

In closing, I would like to ask you something: please stand by the principles that have united us until now, support the team and the Board with advice and partnership, run your businesses smartly and confidently despite the turbulence and never give up hope.

Stay healthy! Wish you success in all your endeavors!

Respectfully yours,
