AmCham Bulgaria and Minister of Economy and Industry Discussed Investment Climate in Bulgaria

Today AmCham Bulgaria held a roundtable discussion with the Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stoyanov and Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Irina Shtonova. The meeting was initiated by the minister himself as part of the “Investors’ Breakfast” Initiative. There were more than 20 American companies (members of the Chamber) that took part in it. The topics of discussion ranged from regulation and rule of law (legislation process), through macroeconomic environment (inflation, recession), labor market improvement, energy (decarbonization, gas and electricity prices) and mineral resources, healthcare, education, and upskilling of people, ITC role for Bulgaria’s competitiveness, etc. The focal point of the discussion was how to make Bulgaria a more attractive place for investors – current and new ones, for its citizens to stay and those abroad to return.

“At AmCham we have clear priorities. Above all, we foster a collaborative dialog with the authorities, aiming at a positive investment climate and favorable business environment in which existing investors share their success stories and incentivize new companies to invest in Bulgaria. We would like to thank Minister Stoyanov for his initiative and for his willingness to listen to real business situations that we all face,” – pointed out Olivier Marquette, AmCham Bulgaria President.

“We would like to see in the Ministry of Economy and Industry a partner that can speak on behalf of the business with other authorities on various topics and issues. Our common goal is to make sure all the problems are well explained, and we can propose their sustainable solution,” commented Ivan Mihaylov, CEO, AmCham Bulgaria at the opening.

“The trade between Bulgaria and the United States marks a record high number in 2021 at the USD 1,3 billion which is 20% more y/y. These numbers result from the better partnership between both countries and thanks to the fact that more than 100 American companies operate in Bulgaria, having more than 30,000 jobs here,” said Nikola Stoyanov, Minister of Economy and Industry.
