Membership Renewal 2023

Letter from Olivier Marquette, AmCham Bulgaria President, January 13, 2023

Dear Members,

Happy New Year! We have already entered 2023 full of hope, plans, and greater expectations. I would like to assure you that AmCham Board’s vision and our team’s motivation are to build-up what we have achieved in 2022 led by our priorities and principles.

We all are working in a dynamic and uncertain economic and political environment – locally and globally. However, in 2022 we strived to achieve our goals and to serve our members. As of December 31, 2022, we had 328 members, spread in 17 industries, engaged in 8 Committees and 2 Working Groups.

I am glad to mention some of the achievements and activities throughout 2022:

  • We joined the “United with Ukraine” initiative with the U.S. Embassy, America for Bulgaria Foundation, the American University in Bulgaria, the American College in Sofia, and Nu Boyana Studio to support the Ukrainians that sought shelter after the Russian aggression with jobs, care, information, etc.
  • We hosted the 2022 AmChams in Europe Best Practice Conference (Oct. 5 – 8) attended by representatives of 27 chambers across Europe and Eurasia.
  • For a second time, the AmChampion Awards were presented to the most engaged members at a Gala Dinner, part of the AmChams in Europe Conference.
  • The Power Sector Decarbonization Study paved the way for the possible paths for achieving the EU Green Deal goals while preserving Bulgaria’s energy independence and guaranteeing a fair transition for regions, investors, business customers and households. It can serve as a solid ground for the future Energy Strategy of Bulgaria.
  • Our community events – The U.S. Independence Day Celebration and the Thanksgiving Charity Dinner – were organized in person for the first time since 2019.
  • The AmCham Committees created content that meets industries’ needs. A solid example of sharing knowledge with audiences beyond the Chamber was the “Cyber Security Series” that was organized with the support of the SME Promotion Agency (SMEPA).
  • Last December, for the first time in many years, we had our U.S. Road Show in San Francisco and Sun Valley, California, and Portland, Oregon, partnering with the InvestBulgaria Agency and presenting Bulgaria’s investment potential.
  • We had our traditional Business Breakfast with the Government on May 19 discussing energy, healthcare, and digitalization.
  • AmCham Bulgaria opened an Office in Washington D.C. that was instrumental not only for the above-mentioned roadshow but for a series of b2b / b2g meetings, plus having the 2022 edition of Explore U.S. Conference (jointly with SMEPA).
  • Our multifaceted and strategic relationship with the U.S. Embassy resulted in an extensive exchange and collaboration on various levels and topics.  Last year we welcomed high-level officials from the United States such as: Dr. Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs gave remarks at the breakfast with the Government; we hosted a discussion on rule of law with Ambassador James O’Brien, as well as we had Jeffrey Pyatt, U.S. State Department Under Secretary on Energy Resources addressing our Explore U.S. Conference.
  • As a symbol of remembrance of a great friend of Bulgaria and an emblem of cooperation among like-minded people, a street in Sofia was named after the Ambassador James Pardew – a project supported by AmCham Bulgaria.
  • Finally, we were lucky to attract Ivan Mihaylov as our new CEO. He has made some significant moves in his first months at the office. Again, join me wishing him and our team success in delivering great results to all.

None of the above would have been possible without your contribution and our team’s devotion. Please accept our Board’s and my personal gratitude for your engagement and dedication to the Chamber.

As per the Statute, your AmCham Bulgaria Membership has been renewed automatically as of January 1, 2023. We kindly remind you that all members should pay their membership fees in a timely manner and according to a Board decision by August 31, 2023. Please find enclosed a Pro-forma invoice for your membership fee for the period January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all once again for your commitment to the Chamber. I want to assure you that in 2023 we will continue our efforts to fulfill AmCham Bulgaria’s mission and goals. We will rely on a higher membership engagement to multiply the positive impact of the Chamber in Bulgaria.

Sincerely yours,

Olivier Marquette
