cargo-partner: Bulgaria’s Leading Logistics Company Reflects on Two Decades of Achievements

  • As the international transport and info-logistics provider celebrates its 40th anniversary worldwide, numerous country organizations throughout Eastern Europe are also observing “round” anniversaries. Most recently, cargo-partner celebrated its 20th anniversary in Bulgaria.
  • The company started a partnership with the Education directorate of Sofia for a student competition with an annual scholarship

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, cargo-partner launched a joint educational program with the Sofia’s Regional Educational Inspectorate, a competition that aims to motivate and support the development of students during secondary education and to show the benefits of a successful partnership between education and business. All students in the territory of the city of Sofia from 8th to 12th grades can take part in the competition. After the commitment of cargo-partner to the dual education system in 2021 as an employer, this new project once again reinforces the company’s strong social commitment. Cargo-partner believes that joint projects with educational institutions will further prepare and motivate Bulgarian youths for their future professional path.

On October 5, 2023, cargo-partner Bulgaria hosted a special customer celebration at its iLogistics Center Sofia on the occasion of the country organization’s 20th anniversary. The event was an opportunity to thank cargo-partner’s loyal customers for their support and to celebrate the company’s milestones of the past two decades in Bulgaria.

Stefan Krauter, Founder and CEO of cargo-partner, stated in his introductory speech: “After establishing our headquarters at Vienna Airport in 1983, we began to expand to other airports in Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria. Two decades ago, we recognized Bulgaria’s strategic importance, with Sofia Airport playing a key role in our pan-European distribution. As we face today’s challenges of digitalization and globalization, we remain committed to fostering growth, innovation, and collaboration in the vibrant logistics landscape of Eastern Europe.”

Mr. Philippe Kupfer, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Austria, also introduced the company stating, “cargo-partner is one of the key Austrian investors in Bulgaria. Its long and successful business presence in Bulgaria creates added value for the economy. By providing stable and sustainable employment, cargo-partner is a positive constant in the labour market, and its trainee and dual education programs contribute to the development of Bulgaria’s young and emerging workforce.

Anniversary celebrations throughout Eastern Europe

Earlier this year, the cargo-partner teams in Slovakia and the Czech Republic hosted customer events to commemorate their 30th anniversaries, and cargo-partner Türkiye opened its new iLogistics Center Istanbul on the occasion of the company’s fifth anniversary in the country. Another celebration is coming up in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where cargo-partner looks back on 15 successful years of business.

Starting out with air freight specialization in 2003

cargo-partner in Bulgaria was founded in Sofia in October 2003 with a focus on air transport, starting out with only five employees. In 2007, the company introduced its live animal transport service, and in 2009, became one of the first local logistics providers to offer charter flight solutions. In 2013, cargo-partner launched its EMERGENCY service, ensuring a response time of 29 minutes from request to solution, and began to offer frequent on-board courier services. Today, cargo-partner is the leading air freight forwarder in Bulgaria, according to airline statistics. The local team now counts 140 employees and offers a full range of air, sea, land transport and warehousing solutions.

Entering the warehouse business in 2018

With the growth of its business, cargo-partner Bulgaria continued to expand its team, moved to new office facilities and entered the warehouse logistics business. After opening additional offices in Varna (2014) and Plovdiv (2017), cargo-partner built its own warehouse with a capacity of 22,000 pallet places in 2018. The cargo-partner iLogistics Center in Sofia is certified according to TAPA-A, ISO 22000 and HACCP and offers expert warehousing solutions for foodstuffs, industrial equipment, high-tech and consumer electronics, bulky shipments and high-value cargo in various temperature ranges. In addition, the warehouse contains a dedicated area for e-commerce fulfillment operations.

Growing focus on environmental sustainability

In recent years, cargo-partner has increased its focus on reducing CO₂ emissions and offering environment-friendly transport alternatives. As part of this strategy, cargo-partner Bulgaria has been working with domestic distribution partner Greenpoint since 2022, using Greenpoint’s electric vans to carry out deliveries with zero emissions in the Sofia area. Last year, this cooperation has helped save almost two metric tons of harmful emissions for deliveries within Sofia. In line with cargo-partner’s corporate targets, the local subsidiary strives to obtain one quarter of its electricity consumption in 2024 from renewable energy, part of which will be provided by photovoltaic panels on the roof of its own iLogistics Center in Sofia.
