AmCham Bulgaria Raised BGN 94,000 for Two Causes During the Thanksgiving Charity Dinner

AmCham Bulgaria raised BGN 94,000 for both supported causes at the Thanksgiving Charity Dinner, held on November 21, 2023. The event aimed to express gratitude to the Chamber’s members and partners for their joint efforts and achievements during the past year to honor the American family tradition and raise funds for traditionally supported causes. The amount is 30% more compared with the BGN 64,000 collected in 2022.

The event annually aims to raise funds to support two traditional causes: the “Get Ready for Success” scholarship program, which assists orphans and semi-orphans (high school and college students) with high grades, and the Support Women Victims of Domestic Violence Fund and organizations such as P.U.L.S.E. Foundation, which provide sheltered housing as well as legal, psychological and social support to help women and their children start new lives.

The event welcomed 300 guests – members and partners – at the Sofia Event Center. It was honored by Aaron Cope, Political Counselor and Jen Bauer, Deputy Political-Economic Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria, Nikolay Pavlov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, and Metropolitan Anthony of Western and Central Europe, who blessed the audience and the noble work.

“Dear members and partners, I would like to thank you for your joint efforts to improve the investment climate in our country. Yes, 2023 was not an easy year, but your dedication, expertise, and ideas make our business community stronger. AmCham is among the leading business associations in the country, and it will continue to be so only if we act and plan together when we share values and common goals. I would like to thank Ivan Mihaylov who took over the management of the Chamber and together with the team achieve impressive results. This successful event is another evidence of these words! Please pass on my personal thanks to your friends and families who support you in your business endeavors and dedication to the Chamber,”

Olivier Marquette, AmCham President, told the audience.

“In 2022, we set a goal for the next Charity Dinner to be different and more meaningful for everyone. I believe that thanks to the team who have worked tirelessly, the sponsors who have supported us, and each and every one of you who are here – we will succeed! The power of this moment is that it brings hope and support to people in need. We know that one day they will be our future doctors, teachers, and engineers. This should make us happy and inspire others to support them,”

said after the event Ivan Mihaylov, CEO of AmCham Bulgaria

Moments of Inspiration

Elitsa Barakova, Executive Director of BCause Foundation, Elena St. Stefanova, ambassador of “Get Ready for Success” (herself a scholarship recipient for 10 years), and Julia Andonova, Communications Manager of P.U.L.S.E. Foundation delivered strong and emotional messages about the benefits of donating to both causes and supporting the people behind them.

“My colleagues and I can tell you many tragic stories – of children who have lost their parents, of helpless women who have left the hell of their home in flight. However, today we are here to transform these stories into happy ones and each of us can be part of this change!”

said Elitsa Barakova, Executive Director of BCause Foundation, which is a member of the Chamber and a leader in charity and CSR programs in the country.

After her spoke the representatives of both causes:

Elena Stefanova, a “Get Ready for Success” scholarship recipient for 10 years shared “As soon as I graduated from college, I became a donor because I knew that these scholarships are not just money: they are hope and proof that someone sees meaning in your life, in your future, and in your development!”

“I can tell you how energizing this is for every child and young person who has lost their parents – I know this because I am one of them!” said Elena excitedly.

Julia Andonova, Communications Manager of the P.U.L.S.E. Foundation said, “Every day we witness the disgusting faces of violence. Thousands of people live in fear, terror, and pain. Thanks to you we are rewriting these stories Thanks to you we are giving a future without violence, together we are giving hope! Thank you for your support!”
