AmCham Members with the Highest Number of Awards in TOP Corporate Donors 2023

Four of the six winners of this year’s TOP Corporate Donors Awards are member companies of AmCham Bulgaria.

Embedded in the values of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria is the responsibility for the development of our society through many and varied initiatives. We therefore gratefully acknowledge the majority of this year’s TOP Corporate Donors of the Bulgarian Donors Forum (BDF) winners, who we are honored to also have as members of our community.

For the 18th year in a row the competition honors successful examples of companies that invest in important public causes, promote best practices in corporate philanthropy, and set high standards for corporate social responsibility in Bulgaria that achieves positive social change in our country.

Six awards and one special prize were presented at the ceremony. Here are the four categories in which AmCham Bulgaria members were awarded: 

  1. Most Generous Corporate Donor: Dundee Precious Metals with donations totaling 5.73% of the company’s pre-tax profit.
  1. Best Corporate Giving Program: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Bulgaria with their volunteer and philanthropic program HPE Gives, which supports education, community, and environmental initiatives.
  1. Most Generous Corporate Donor: In-kind Donations: Mondelēz Bulgaria for donations of products worth more than 345 000 BGN.  The main recipient is the Bulgarian Food Bank, which helps the donations reach those in need. The company has a long-standing partnership with the bank and in addition to its regular support, also provides products in emergency situations.
  1. Most Successful Partnership: Vivacom Bulgaria and Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association (NSOTA). In the last four years, the company’s support has financed the preparation and participation of 9 Olympic teams in international competitions, from which they have won 11 gold, 18 silver, and 13 bronze medals.

However, as prestigious and valuable as these awards are, they were not the only honor our members received during the ceremony.

The Special Award for a figure with a significant contribution to the development of philanthropy in Bulgaria went to Prof. Dr. Lachezar Tsotzorkov (1945-2017), who during his lifetime invested substantial resources in health, sports, historic preservation, culture, social activities, education, and tourism development. Prof. Tsotsorkov donates in numerous campaigns and in his personal capacity, as well as through the company Asarel-Medet and the Asarel Foundation.

His successors continue his legacy with the “Lachezar Tsotsorkov” Foundation, whose main goal is the well-being of Bulgarian society by supporting culture and talent development, promoting innovation and excellence in education and healthcare, as well as supporting underprivileged children.

The applications were reviewed by a panel of experts consisting of the following members: Gabriela Marinova (Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum), Georgi Simeonov (Deloitte Bulgaria), Genoveva Petrova (Alpha Research), Darina Georgieva (United Nations Global Compact), Desislava Talyokova (America for Bulgaria Foundation), Maxim Mayer (BGlobal Media), Svetla Kostadinova (Institute for Market Economics), and Daniel Kiryakov (AmCham Bulgaria).
