Applications for Progress’ 2024 Women in Technology Scholarship Program Are Now Open

Progress, the trusted provider of IT infrastructure software, announced today the start of the application for this year’s edition of its Women in Tech Scholarship Program.

The company will recognize two talented girls who have chosen to develop in the IT world with one-time scholarships worth BGN 3,000 each. The application deadline is April 12, 2024, and the documents are to be submitted at this link.

The Women in Tech Scholarship Program is aimed at second-, third- and fourth-year girls majoring in computer science, software engineering, informatics, information systems, applied mathematics or a similar field from accredited universities in Bulgaria. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievements, cover letter/essay and extracurricular activities in the fields of technology, mathematics and programming.

“With the increasing democratization of technology and the development of the sector, the need for different perspectives in the process of creating software products becomes a fundamental factor in both achieving business success and creating innovation,” said Lilia Mesechkova, senior vice president of software engineering at Progress. “We are excited that for another year we will have the opportunity to support the next generation of women leaders in the IT business. Meeting so many bright young people gives us hope for the future of our industry.”

In addition to the financial support of BGN 3,000, the scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to spend a week in the Progress office, where they can find out more about the company’s activities, draw on the experience of seasoned professionals and learn about the different career paths in the world of technology. They will also have the opportunity to meet some of the women leaders in the Sofia office of the company.

“I am honored to be a recipient of this scholarship and look forward to maximizing this opportunity to enhance my skills and knowledge in the IT sector,” said Alisa Dermendzhiyska, 2023 scholarship recipient, currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer systems and technologies at the Technical University of Sofia. “By supporting women in technology, Progress is paving the way for a brighter future, empowering girls to pursue their passions and contribute to the ever-evolving world of technology.”

The Women in Tech Scholarship Program is part of Progress’s “Women in STEM” global program, which includes similar initiatives in the United States and India. In Bulgaria, it started in 2020 with the establishment of a scholarship of the same name at the American University in Bulgaria, which this year amounts to 8,000 euros. So far, the company has donated nearly BGN 63,000 to support the next generation of female IT leaders.
