On October 1, 2024, the 4th meeting of the AmCham Bulgaria ESG Committee welcomed 30 professionals of member companies, and it was hosted by SAP Bulgaria.
As per its title participants discussed key aspects of the pressing issue of climate management in companies’ operations.
The event was opened by Daniel Kiryakov, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, and Georgi Terziyski, Senior Sales Executive, SAP Bulgaria. Daniel outlined the bigger event and topical agenda of the Chamber till the year-end. Georgi welcomed the guests and introduced how SAP acts as an example and aims to transform the enterprises with next-generation solutions. A welcome note was provided also by Radoslav Nikolov, Managing Director, SAP Labs who addressed the audience on how local team in Sofia contributes to the development of the global SAP sustainability solutions and how this team is constantly growing.
Formally, the Marina Kobakova, General Manager, ING Bank Bulgaria and Co-Chair, AmCham ESG Committee made a video message in her first appearance in her new role. She outlined her dedication to working with the Chamber’s ESG community.
Boyan Rashev, Partner, EY denkstatt & Co-Chair, AmCham ESG Committee addressed the audience with the question “How Climate Became a Core Concern for Companies?” His presentation tackled with two major aspects: 1) The different types of frameworks – voluntary and mandatory, and 2) Key elements of climate management within the companies.
On behalf of the host, Gergely Jancsar, CEE Chief Sustainability Officer, SAP, presented the role of IT tools for data management and calculation related to climate issues. In his presentation he described that greenhouse gas calculation in corporate world covers different business processes ranging from environmental compliance related emission measurement, through indirect emissions calculations even including product footprint calculations. SAP has a modular approach where all these processes can be digitalized with specialized solutions. One common feature of these solutions is that they build on existing databases as common data foundation, especially the data stored in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems as the most reliable corporate data source. This is what SAP calls the ERP-centric sustainability digitalization approach.
