In October, the power plant generated enough electricity to meet the average monthly consumption of over 530,000 Bulgarian households

AES’ TPP in Galabovo is fully prepared for operation in the upcoming winter season. With over 280,000 tonnes of lignite coal reserves, the newest and most advanced TPP in Bulgaria can maintain full-load operations for nearly a month. Complying with regulatory requirements, AES’ TPP in Galabovo also maintains a sufficient reserve of liquid fuel and limestone needed for the desulphurization process.
The power plant completed successfully its annual preventive maintenance campaign for both power units. Currently, the generating capacities are available to the power system and are fully ready for operation during the winter period. AES’ TPP in Galabovo is the most flexible coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria and, thanks to its maneuverability, provides the Electricity System Operator (ESO) with a range of system services for managing the country’s power grid.
In October, AES’ TPP in Galabovo generated over 180,000 MWh of electricity, sufficient to cover the average monthly consumption of more than 530,000 Bulgarian households.
AES’ TPP in Galabovo stands out as Bulgaria’s only entirely newly built coal-fired power plant in the past 40 years. The power plant is vital in ensuring the country’s energy independence and security, relying solely on local energy resource: Bulgarian lignite coal. Additionally, it contributes to the region’s social stability by providing over 400 direct jobs.
