AmCham Bulgaria and the German Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce held today a high-level round table discussion titled “Bulgaria Towards Accessible, Competitive, and Sustainable Mobility”, at Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia.

The event gathered key public and private sector stakeholders, including mobility leaders, policy makers, and representatives from Flix – one of Europe’s leading travel-tech companies.

The keynote address was delivered by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov, who presented the Ministry’s vision for reforming the public transport system in Bulgaria. He outlined the key shortcomings identified in a recent national analysis, including the lack of an integrated transport framework, the absence of a unified national transport scheme, and regulatory gaps in electronic ticketing integration.

Deputy Minister Nedyalkov emphasized the government’s commitment to adopting a new Public Transport Act, which will introduce coordinated planning between national, regional, and municipal levels. The act will provide mechanisms for better integration between transport modes, ensuring equal treatment of operators, contracting authorities, and passengers.

The new model aims to guarantee uninterrupted service across transport modes, improve data collection for better route planning, and optimize cost-efficiency for both operators and the state. The expected outcomes include improved connectivity, enhanced access to services, and long-term benefits for industrial zones and the tourism sector.

This invitation-only round table served as a platform to align efforts between institutional and business leaders toward building a more efficient and sustainable transport system in Bulgaria.
