AmCham and Bulgarian National Bank Sign Memorandum of Cooperation to Support Bulgaria’s Eurozone Accession

On May 20, 2025, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham) and the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) officially signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, marking a significant milestone in their long-standing partnership. The agreement, signed during an official ceremony at the BNB headquarters in Sofia, sets the stage for deepened institutional collaboration in support of Bulgaria’s strategic goal of joining the Eurozone by January 1, 2026.

The memorandum was signed by Dimitar Radev, Governor of the BNB, and Ivan Mihaylov, Chief Executive Officer of AmCham Bulgaria. The ceremony was attended by BNB Deputy Governors Petar Chobanov and Radoslav Milenkov, as well as representatives of the AmCham Board and leadership team.

The document reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to foster closer cooperation on initiatives that promote economic competitiveness, financial stability, and informed public dialogue. With the Eurozone accession process entering a crucial phase, the memorandum outlines a joint approach to raising awareness among businesses, investors, and households about the long-term benefits of adopting the euro.

“BNB and AmCham have maintained a long-standing partnership in organizing initiatives aimed at strengthening the dialogue between institutions and business, improving the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy, and accelerating the country’s European integration. Today’s memorandum will provide for further deepening of this cooperation, with a focus on the successful accession of Bulgaria to the Eurozone,” said BNB Governor Dimitar Radev.

From AmCham’s perspective, the signing represents an important recognition of the role that the business community can play in supporting national economic priorities.

“The signing of this Memorandum is an important step toward further strengthening the cooperation between the Bulgarian authorities and the business community. For AmCham, Eurozone accession remains a strategic priority that will contribute to economic stability, sustainable growth, and stronger integration into European financial and investment flows,” stated AmCham CEO Ivan Mihaylov.

Following the signing ceremony, representatives of both institutions held a strategic meeting to discuss upcoming joint initiatives. Among the priorities outlined were new public forums, expert roundtables, and educational campaigns aimed at facilitating informed discussions on Bulgaria’s readiness for the Eurozone and its broader macroeconomic outlook.

This agreement builds on the success of recent collaborations, such as the high-level discussion on Bulgaria’s competitiveness in the context of Eurozone accession, co-organized by AmCham and BNB earlier this year. Going forward, the Chamber remains committed to playing an active role in creating platforms for constructive dialogue between government, regulators, and the private sector.

AmCham Bulgaria thanks the Bulgarian National Bank for its trust and partnership and looks forward to continuing its efforts in support of Bulgaria’s European integration journey.
