On September 21st, 2026, Ivan Mihaylov, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria appeared in an interview for “The World is Business”, Bloomber TV Bulgaria.
During the interview, Mr. Mihaylov stated, that: “Bulgarian companies’ drive to enter the U.S. market has not waned; in fact, it is growing stronger. They are eager to do business in the U.S. or with American partners. There is also a growing interest from American companies in Bulgaria.”
“Bulgaria now has a stable government that came to power with a full majority, strong support, and the ambition to promote investment and transform the investment climate,” Mr. Mihaylov noted, expressing hope that politicians, business representatives, and labor unions would hold discussions to define a national goal so that Bulgaria could become more attractive to foreign investment.
“The government made many statements in its program regarding its ambitions to change the investment climate. Now we need to see the concrete steps behind these messages and political rhetoric, as they are the essence of the changes that must take place.”
According to Mihaylov, it is necessary to reduce the administrative burden on businesses and ensure more predictable legislation, tax, and fiscal policies, as investors are watching these factors very closely amid intensifying competition.
All countries are competing to attract new investors, but also to retain those already in their territory, as there is significant economic pressure from markets with lower wages or the ability to offer tax policies or incentive packages that are free from EU restrictions, the interviewee noted.
