Enery, a leading independent power producer in Central and Eastern Europe, and Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria EAD, one of the largest beverage producers in the country, have signed a long-term physical Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of renewable electricity from Enery’s Knizhovnik hybrid power plant in Bulgaria.
Under the agreement, Enery will supply Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria with locally generated renewable electricity annually based on a fixed solar generation profile.
The agreement marks the second corporate PPA secured for Enery’s Knizhovnik hybrid project, demonstrating how large-scale renewable assets combining solar generation and battery storage can support the different energy needs of major industrial and commercial consumers.
“Long-term PPAs create lasting value when they bring together competitive energy sourcing, long-term predictability and measurable decarbonization progress. Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria EAD has demonstrated a strong leadership in reducing its operational footprint, and we are proud to support that journey with locally generated renewable electricity. What makes Knizhovnik truly standout is its innovative commercial design: by co-locating utility-scale solar with BESS and layering multi-offtaker structures, we optimize portfolio generation, capture flexibility, and deliver tailored risk-managed energy solutions to diverse corporate partners,” said Severin Vartigov, Chief Commercial Officer at Enery.
The PPA further supports Coca-Cola HBC’s wider commitment to reducing emissions across its operations and value chain and achieving net zero emissions by 2040. By securing renewable electricity through a long-term PPA, Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria strengthens the link between its energy procurement strategy and the development of new renewable generation capacity in the country.
“Our Group’s NetZeroby2040 commitment requires action across every part of our business. By securing renewable electricity from a local source, we are reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and supporting the development of Bulgaria’s renewable energy sector. We are proud to partner with Enery on this important step in our decarbonisation journey,” said Chavdar Chorbadzhiyski, Supply Chain Director at Coca‑Cola HBC Bulgaria.
The electricity contracted under the PPA will come from Enery’s Knizhovnik hybrid power plant, located near Haskovo in southern Bulgaria. The project combines a 122 MWp photovoltaic power plant with two battery energy storage systems with capacities of 70 MWh and 130 MWh, respectively. The power plants generate approximately 200 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of almost 50,000 households.
The integration of battery storage adds flexibility to the project, allowing renewable electricity generation to be managed more efficiently and supporting the wider integration of solar power into Bulgaria’s electricity system.
