AmCham, BCAF Spearhead Volunteer Days
AmCham Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation (BCAF) resumed Volunteer Days initiative on May 14, 2016. Over 475 volunteers from 18 AmCham member companies participated in activities in Chelopech, Sofia, Pleven, Stara Zagora to make the environment better: cleaning, planting, renovating of fences, assistance in centers for orphan children and houses for elderly people.
Among the hosting organizations were the National Museum of Military History, State Agency – Archives, University Hospital for Active Treatment “Aleksandrovska”, Botanical Garden at BAS, Sofia Zoo, Boyana Church, Vitosha Nature Park, National Polytechnic Museum, Home for elderly people in Darvenitsa, The Chocolate Laboratory, Day Care Centre “Sv. Vrach”, “We Exist” day care centre, “Green Balkans”-Stara Zagora, the Concordia Bulgaria foundation, Association “Agrolink”, Foundation “Children”.
Among the AmCham member companies were: Amdocs, CEZ Bulgaria, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3, Dimitrov, Petrov & Co., Dundee Precious Metals, JTI Bulgaria, MARSH, Microsoft Bulgaria, Mobiltel, PMI-Bulgaria, Provident, Radisson Blu, Sanofi, Sogelife, StantonChase, Telenor, The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria и VMWare.
The formal opening of Volunteer Days took place at the Military Museum in Sofia. The volunteers from Philip Morris company were warmly welcomed by Elitsa Barakova, executive director, BCAF, Valentin Georgiev, executive director, AmCham Bulgaria, Maria Galindo, U.S. Commercial Attaché and Dr. Daniela Tsankova-Gancheva, deputy director, Military Museum.
What has been done, some of the works:
- Parks near buildings of the National Archive Fund repository base in “Birimirtsi” were cleaned and cultivated.
- Aviaries and equipment at the Rescue Center for Wild Animals in Stara Zagora were cleaned; trees at the entrance were whitewashed.
- Volunteers from Mtel and Telenor together with the Association “Agrolink” planted together fruits, flowers and herbs in the special school for deaf children in district Monastery Meadows.

Deadline for the registration – April 28th, 2016.
This year you may choose from over 29 volunteer projects in Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Turnovo, Vidin, Montana, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sliven, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shoumen and Yambol. Please find attached a link to the Volunteer Projects Catalogue.
The web catalogue will be regularly updated to show the available projects and remaining vacancies for volunteers. Please keep track on the catalogue and share the updated information with your fellows.
Participantion Fee:
For groups of 1-10 participants – 80 BGN per company |
For groups of 11 and more participants – 150 BGN per company |
The participation fee will cover the expenses for the organization of the projects.

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE REGISTRATION …
Each company should appoint a coordinator for the volunteer day, and, if needed – a coordinator for each location/city, where employees will be volunteering. The coordinator will be responsible for sending out the invitation to company’s employees, signing up the groups for each project by e-mail [email protected] and communicating with AmCham/BCAF if needed.
The companies are expected to cover the expenses of their volunteer project, such as transportation costs, materials for the project (gloves, paint, brooms, etc.), any food, etc.
